A simple dal rice recipe in Marathi style
- 1 cup rice
- 1/2 cup tur dal
- 2 teaspoons Oil
- 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
- 1 pinch Asafetida or hing
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
- Salt - to taste
- 1 teaspoon Jaggery
- Pressure cook dal and rice seperately. Blend dal.
- Temper dal with fried cumin seeds and hot oil.
- Adjust taste and consistency with salt, jaggery and water.
- Serve varan with hot bhaat (cooked rice)
