Chembin Thalu Curry

A traditional Kerala recipe prepared with Taro stems


  • 2 cups Taro stem, chopped
  • 2 Dried chilly, crushed
  • Few Curry leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon Fenugreek seed
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seed
  • Oil as required
  • 3 teaspoons Tamarind juice
  • 3 Shallots
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Chilly powder
  • 1 cup Grated coconut
  • Salt to taste


  1. Cook taro stem by adding salt, chilly powder, turmeric powder and tamarind juice.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds and curry leaves.
  3. Pour this seasoning over the curry.
  4. Serve Chembin thalu curry with rice.
