Chakkakkuru Mulakittathu

Jackfruit seeds cooked in a spicy sauce


  • 1 cup Jackfruit seeds, peeled and cut into half
  • 5 Shallots, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 2 tablespoons Coconut oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • Tamarind, small lemon sized soaked in hot water
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger garlic paste
  • 1 Tomato , medium sized thinly sliced
  • 1 Onion, medium sized thinly sliced
  • Few Curry leaves


  1. Pressure cook all ingredients except mustard seeds, shallots and curry leaves for three whistles.
  2. Heat oil into a pan and splutter mustard seeds.
  3. Add shallots and curry leaves and fry for few seconds.
  4. Pour this seasoning over the dish. Mix well.
  5. Serve Chakkarkuru mulakittathu with rice.
